Board wars

February 9th, 2007 - By Joshua Schroeder

Sometimes I wish I lived in Sweden. Over there you will never hear an argument over which table hockey board is the best. The conversation would never get past Stiga over there. In a way, the standardization would be nice. But at the same time, I’ve always been of two minds about standardization.

TH History - 1978, 2nd Annual Burlington Classic

February 9th, 2007 - By Sabre_in_Virginia

Sabre_in_Virginia How good were the Americans back in the 1970s? Who were they? Where did they come from in the States? Who did they compete against in Canada? Are any of them still playing?

Let me digress a bit before I present and discuss the guys from America who ventured north of the border to compete. Let me tell you how I found this tournament. Remember, there was no Internet, no websites, no email, and no free long distance calling. It was a different time. I don’t wear my tight butterscotch background with red plaid bell bottom pants anymore. Things change right? Well, some don’t. Here we are thirty plus years later and we’re still playing table hockey. Oh, sure we don’t have to ask our moms if we can play, which we could after our chores were done. No, now we have to ask our wives….after some of the “honey-do / to-do” list has been worked off.

In The Beginning (Notes of a Champ)

February 7th, 2007 - By William Leon "The King" Mackenzie

It all started on April 20th 1972. I was Born. Started playing Table Hockey & Ice Hockey at the age of 3. Like my brother Gino, I wanted to follow in his foot steps and play the goalie position. I was blessed to have such a great brother and friend, and he is the one who showed me the ropes as they say.

We picked at the time the 21 teams, actually picked 10 each so 20! Had complete seasons and beleive it or not, we found the scores of those games this summer while cleaning the attick. He use to beat me 9 times out of 10. He was 8 and I was 3. For this reason everytime I would win we would put a “C” beside the games score, because it happened so little.

Bienvenue! Welcome!

February 7th, 2007 - By Sabre_in_Virginia

Sabre_in_Virginia First, let me welcome you to Table Hockey Heaven’s (THH) newest feature, a web log. More commonly known as a Blog. Second, I am honored to have been chosen as one of THH’s Blog Authors.

When I was a policeman, I was quite capable of writing very detailed reports. I was told (teased kindly) that a few people in our administrative office and over at headquarters would look forward to reading one of my reports over morning coffee. My reports tended to stray from the simple who, what, when, where, why and how (the 5 W’s+H). I tended add a bit of color.

What a weekend!

February 6th, 2007 - By Joshua Schroeder

Stiga table hockey in EdmontonThe weekend of February 2nd and 3rd presented me with the opportunity to make a road trip 5 hours up the Queen Elizabeth II highway to Edmonton and fully engulf myself in my Canadian identity. A great convenience to me was that I was able to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ by participating in the 2007 Alberta Stiga Championships and attending a pair of Canadian university hockey games. You see, in addition to being an avid table hockey player, I also shoot photos and write newspaper articles covering the University of Lethbridge men’s hockey team.
