Hello fellow US Stiga table hockey players. The United States Table Hockey Association is holding an election for president and six board positions.

The USTHA board this week unanimously approved an updated election process. It's based on the last election rules, with a couple of changes to reflect some of the current realities.

*Voting: Instead of having the voters solely be the USTHA paid membership, the voters also will be made up of any USA player who has played in a North American tournament the past two years of the rolling calendar (March 2009 to present). You only get one vote, no matter how many tournaments you may have played in.

*Eligibility: To be eligible to run, you can be a USTHA member who's current on dues (and from the USA), a USA player who has played in one of the sanctioned Stiga tournaments from March 2009 to present, or a current USTHA board member. This is a change from last time, when only USTHA members could run.

And here are the election guidelines...

***********************

The USTHA is holding elections for president and six board positions.

We're taking nominations for candidates to run in this election. Players from the USA who have played in a Stiga tournament that's part of the North American ranking system the past two years (March 2009-present) are eligible to run, nominate others, and vote. USTHA board members and USA folks with up-to-date paid memberships also are eligible to run, nominate and vote.

You can nominate individuals for board president and for board member positions. Some details:

*Please send your nominations in by Monday, April 25.

*The e-mail address to send nominations to: usthaelections@gmail.com

*It's OK to nominate yourself.

*Geographical considerations: in the interests of geographical balance, there's a maximum of two people from each city that can serve on the board at once. The idea is to ensure that no one area can dominate an issue and that balance will bring consensus in decision-making. The geographic limit applies to both board members and the president's position. So if the president is from Town A, for example, only one of the board members can be from Town A. That said, there's no limit on the number of people from a geographic area that can be nominated and run. Should more than two people from the same city get elected, only the top two vote getters would be seated, and the board position would fall to the candidate with the next-best vote total.

*After the nomination e-mails have been filed, the USTHA board will contact the nominees and ask each of them if they are interested in running for the position(s) they were nominated for. The goal is to complete the ballot by Monday, May 2.

*Nominees who want to run will then be asked to send a short statement outlining their goals for the USTHA if they are elected. Are there special projects you want to work on or areas of expertise you bring to the table? Let the voters know.

*Nominees will have two weeks to get their statements in. The goal to complete that is Monday, May 16.

*Voting: a ballot will be created and be e-mailed out to all USTHA members (or held electronically on a secure web site). The ballot will list the choices for president (vote for 1) and board members (vote for up to six) and the candidate statements will appear. The goal will be to finish balloting by the end of May or early June.

Sincerely,

The USTHA Board

So do I take it that the USTHA has the emails for all players who have played over the last two years so that they will be able to receive and read all nomination statements. I'm just wondering how that will all work exactly.

I'll cut-and-paste my response from table hockey tavern yahoo group, for those not on there...

Good question.

For the overwhelming majority, yes, we already have e-mails. Might do snail mail
for the few we can't track down electronically, if any end up falling into that
category. The wonders of Facebook (hopefully).

Also, it's possible we might do paper ballots for the youngsters who played in
the SoCal tournaments. The understandable fear is that parents might not exactly
like adult male table hockey guys sending their children unsolicited e-mails.

Best,
Eric

I'd like to announce to all that I have thrown my hat into the ring and will be running for President of the USTHA in the upcoming election. Based on the current climate and direction of US Table Hockey, I feel the time is right for me to make a run at the position. I have some new concepts and ideas that I feel will be benefical to the organization and players across the country moving forward. When ballots go out, I hope you all take the time to read my summary, learn about my past experience and qualifications, and consider me for the position of president of the USTHA.

I encourage readers of Heaven who have questions to start a dialogue on this and I'll be happy to weigh in with my thoughts.

Hey everybody...nominations for the USTHA election have been open for one week now and it's slow going so far.

We've had one person nominate himself...and that's it.

So as of a couple minutes ago, we've got one nomination for USTHA president and zero for the six USTHA board positions.

If you're thinking about running or like the job that some of the current board members have been doing, please send in a nomination e-mail. It's also OK to nominate yourself.

The e-mail is: usthaelections@gmail.com

And the deadline to do so is Monday, April 25...about a week away.

More details below (re-post of earlier announcement)...

Nice to see Steve making a comeback. Now where is everyone else? There are 7 positions open. Although I cannot nominate anyone (being Canadian), I would back Eric K, Paul B, Len M, Jim R, Kenny D, Matt D. and others for positions on the board.

Maybe send out emails to all USTHA members as many don't read THH and THT. Awareness is the key. You wouldn't to hear "If only I had known" after April 25th.

OK...now that the nominating period is over, the USTHA board will contact the 12 people nominated for the six board spots and the two people nominated for president to see if they will accept.

We suspect some of the dozen or so nominated for the board will decline. If there are seven or more running for board spots, there will be an election. Six or fewer candidates and voters won't have to weigh in, since you'll be able to vote for up to six candidates.

Hopefully by next Monday night, we'll know what the ballot will look like, and the candidates will then write up their statements on why they're running and what they'd do, etc.

Hello. A quick update...we're waiting to hear back from one person who was nominated to run for USTHA board but who isn't an e-mail guy. Left a voice mail tonight.

Once we hear back, the field for the six USTHA board spots will be set. And we'll announce all the candidates for those positions as well as president.

That'll leave about a week and a half for candidates to write their candidate statements and then onto the voting.

Thanks Dan.

Based on the tallies that Mr. Paul Brotz put together, I think we had about 55 percent turnout.

And given that a lot of those who didn't vote were kids whose parents opted not to get involved with crazy table hockey stuff...the adult turnout mighta hit 70 to 75 percent, I'd guesstimate.

Pretty good, given that turnout in presidential elections in this country is usually about 50 percent of registered voters, and not adult is registered to vote.

Higher than I would have expected, and that's good.
